410 stainless steel is a heat-treatable martensitic alloy containing 11.5% chromium.
Unlike austenitic stainless steel grades, 410 may be hardened, although hardening reduces the material's corrosion resistance. The product is suitable for aerospace applications requiring good strength, ductility and superior hardness. 410 stainless also benefits from high mechanical properties. Weldability is poor, and corrosion resistance is limited, although additional processes may enhance corrosion resistance further. However, 410 stainless steel will resist corrosion resistance in mild atmospheres. The overall wear resistance of the alloy is also superior.
410 stainless steel finds use in the production of highly stressed parts in applications including turbine blades, pumps, valve components and manifolds.
