7050 aluminium is suitable for heavy plate aerospace applications.

We stock 7050 aluminium plates to support the MRO sector. Our plates contain 5.7% to 6.7% zinc.

7050 aluminium plate offers high fatigue strength and good resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC).

About 7050 Plates

With lower quench sensitivity and greater strength in thicker sections, the product finds suitability in heavy plate applications, particularly in the aerospace engineering sector. Improved quench sensitivity ensures that the strength of the alloy is maintained over an extended time period. Good fracture toughness is also a feature and offers good strength and sub-zero temperatures. The material also benefits from a considerable increase in strength after heat treatment and good mechanical properties.

Use in Aerospace

7050 plate finds use in structural aerospace applications due to the characteristics mentioned. Specific engineering applications include bulkheads, aircraft structures, fuselage, wing structures and aircraft parts. The product is suitable for high-stress applications where corrosion resistance is required.

Availability and Specifications

7050 Aluminium is most commonly available in plate form in T7451 condition to the American AMS 4050 specification. AMS 4201 refers to the less common T7651 condition. Smiths MRO offers AMS4050 plates in a range of thicknesses from 0.25" up to 8" thickness. We stock large plates, smaller offcuts, and pre-cut planks, which we ship within a day of ordering.

We also provide in-house processing services where we cut plates to your specific size requirements using a range of high-capacity vertical and CNC saws. We cut to tight tolerances, which often negates the need for further cutting, saving you time and money.
